Awe and the Still Small Voice throughout ALPHA
Awe and the Still Small Voice Throughout Alpha
It has been years since I last ran Alpha. This time, it was not just one, but three running concurrently during Eastertide: English, Chinese, and Youth Alpha.
Looking back, I do not quite know how we came this far, except through what God had once placed in my heart as a vision, and a quiet but persistent prompting to obey Him. I was reminded of a moment years ago during a silent retreat, when this Scripture became deeply personal:
“This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities.”
— Ephesians 3:7–8a (The Message)
He promised to handle all the details. And indeed, He did.
The Holy Spirit Weekend concluded with more than 14 salvations, something that felt rare and deeply humbling in these times. I could only bow down in awe, filled with gratitude to witness His power at work.
And yet, alongside the awe came moments I am still trying to process.
There was a powerful encounter where one sister received the gift of tongues and had a deeply overwhelming spiritual experience. Just hours later, her sister who had brought her encountered a sudden accident and fractured her knee, requiring surgery the very next day.
In the span of a day, there was awe, and then there was fear.
In that tension, I was reminded of Elijah. After a great victory, he fled into the wilderness. And it was there, not in the dramatic moments, but in the still small voice, that God met him.
I sense the same invitation now. Not to rush to explain or resolve everything, but to listen. To trust that the God who moves in power is also the God who gently leads.
And I can hold on to this with quiet confidence: His still small voice will guide us, into His purpose and His perfect plan.
How do you hold moments of awe and uncertainty together in your journey with God?
Where might God be inviting you to listen again for His still small voice?
Lord, we thank You for Your presence and power at work among us.
We ask for Your protection over every life touched,
and for Your peace where there is fear or uncertainty.
Grant us discernment to recognise Your voice,
and the grace to follow where You lead.
Hold us steady in Your love,
and guide us into Your perfect will.
Amen.
